What exactly will the Velocity Strategy teach me?
- The Velocity Strategy is a series of DVDs that teaches people how to trade emini futures. And there is a trading service that goes along with the DVDs to help you get started.
Can you explain what exactly the e mini futures market is? Is it commodities driven?
- The e-minis are not commodities. They are futures contracts based on the price and movements of the S&P 500, Nasdaq, Dow and other indices. They are not ETFs, they are not stocks. You will need a futures account, but there are lots of online futures brokers just as there are stock brokers.
Does your strategy involve options?
- No, only the futures contracts themselves.
Any special software required?
- No special software, you just need to be able to get charts and a futures account.
Does this service require the markets to be very volatile? Does it work better in a less volatile market, as you say in the videos above, 90% of time you are waiting for the signal.
- It works in any type of market. You do have to make adjustments based on the type of market you are in.
So how big of an account does one need to be able to trade this effectively?
- I would say if you are only going to do intraday trading you get start with as little as $3000. If you are going to hold trades overnight, you will need at least $15,000.
Is this a safe strategy considering the volatility in the markets today?
- The beauty of the Velocity Strategy is that most of the time you are sitting in cash. You wait for the signal and then pull the trigger.
What is the probability of winning?
- With VS1 the winning percentage is around 80%, with VS2 it is approximately 65%.
What percentage of your trading portfolio should a trader risk on a single trade?
- This may seem a little crazy, but I use approximately 50%. Because of the tight stops, the overall risk to the portfolio is still minimal.
How do you protect on the down side?
- You always have stop losses in place when you enter a trade.
What is the exit strategy? (ie. trailing stops, sell 1/2 after 50%, etc.)
- I exit in two parts, the first exit is usually 8-10 points and then the second half is determined by points on the chart. It could be support/resistance points, it could be trendlines, it could be overbought or oversold levels.
Is your strategy just technical in nature (i.e., RSI, MACD, etc.) or both technical and fundamental?
- It is mostly technical in nature because of the short time frame. Fundamentals don't really play much of a role over the course of a day or two.
How experienced does a person have to be to be able to benefit from the Velocity Strategy?
- There should be a certain level of understanding of financial markets, but the whole idea of the Velocity Strategy is to teach people how to trade futures and walk people through the process in the beginning.
I am new to trading. I have been studying strategies but find it all very difficult. The fact that your strategy includes help with picks intrigues me. Is this ok for a raw beginner?
- It is designed for beginners and veterans alike. The veterans may catch on quicker, but they too can learn. The beginners will need the help a little more.
How long would it take for someone to get good at this?
- If you were starting from scratch like I did five or six years ago I would say it will take a while to get good at it. Because we have already done the testing and made the mistakes, your learning curve will be much shorter.
How many hours do you think it will take for a novice to get through the materials and be comfortable to start trading, best guess?
- If you are a novice to trading completely, I would say you will want to go through the videos and the books at least once which shouldn't take more than 8-10 hours. If you have some experience in technical analysis, but have never traded futures before, you should be able to get through it in 4-5 hours I would think.
Is there a trial period to evaluate the product?
- 30 days from the time you get the course it is 100% refundable and included with the course is a one-year free membership to the service where you get my recommendations.
What is the largest and average draw down during the testing periods for VS1 & VS2 ?
- The worst draw down for VS2 was around 25%. This was during the worst losing streak of 4 losses in a row.
Do you have to use margins when trading these strategies?
- Yes you have to use a margin when trading the mini futures.
So this is day trading?
- Sometimes yes, you will be in and out in the same day. Sometimes you will be holding for one night, and with VS1 you will be holding anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
